SFI Launch Highlights: SBIRS GEO-3 on ULA Atlas V 401

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — United Launch Alliance (ULA) sent the third Space Based Infrared System (SBIRS GEO 3) satellite to a geosynchronous orbit on Friday, Jan. 20, at 7:42 p.m. EST (00:42 GMT). The flight was the first Cape launch of the year and marked what could be the start of a year with as many as 30 launches.

SpaceFlight Insider’s Visual Team placed some 14 remote still and video cameras in and around Canaveral’s Space Launch Complex 41, allowing us to capture the video you see below. All imagery is courtesy of SFI.
