  China has performed its third orbital launch of this year (2018) by sending its Long March 2D booster carrying the LKW-3 Earth observation spacecraft aloft. 

• Long March 2D sends Yaogan Weixing 31 satellite aloft

  Using a Long March 2D booster, China has successfully sent its newest Yaogan Weixing remote sensing satellite into orbit. The launch was conducted at 04:11 GMT on Sunday, Dec. 3 (11:11 p.m. EST on Saturday, Dec. 2), 2017, from the LC43 Launch Complex at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in China's Gansu Province.

• Long March 2D blasts off with VRSS-2 Earth-observing satellite

  A Long March 2D booster lifted off from Launch Area 4 at Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in Gansu Province, China, carrying Venezuela's second remote sensing satellite known as VRSS-2. The launch took place at 04:13 UTC (0:13 a.m. EDT) on Monday, October 9, 2017.

• Long March 2D to deliver Venezuelan VRSS-2 Earth-observing satellite into orbit

  China is preparing for its second orbital mission after a three-month-long period with no launches. This time it will send a Long March 2D rocket into space carrying an Earth-observation satellite for Venezuela. Liftoff is planned for sometime between 12:05 a.m. and 12:33 a.m. EDT (04:05 and 04:33 GMT) Oct. 9, 2017, from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in the Gansu Province.

• China launches X-ray space telescope to unravel mysteries of universe

  A Long March 4B rocket took to the skies on Thursday, June 15, 2017, carrying an important astronomy mission for China. The Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope, dubbed “Insight”, will search for black holes, pulsars, and other phenomena with the aim of uncovering the most intriguing secrets of the universe.

• China readying Kaituozhe-2A rocket for launch with experimental payload

  There are indications that the China National Space Administration (CNSA) is preparing to launch its Kaituozhe-2A (KT-2A) rocket on a mission to deliver an experimental satellite into orbit. The rocket may lift off as soon as March 3, 2017.

• Long March 2D launches China’s TanSat carbon-monitoring satellite

  China has successfully launched its first mission dedicated to carbon dioxide detection and monitoring. The spacecraft, named TanSat (“Tan” means carbon in Chinese), lifted off atop a Long March 2D booster on Wednesday, Dec. 21, at 19:22 GMT (2:22 p.m. EST) from the Launch Area 4 at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre, located in the Gobi Desert, Inner Mongolia.

• Long March 11 launches pioneering X-ray pulsar navigation spacecraft

  China successfully launched a Long March 11 rocket with a group of five satellites, including XPNAV-1, an experimental X-ray pulsar navigation spacecraft. Liftoff took place at 7:42 a.m. China Standard Time on Nov 10 (23:42 GMT / 6:42 p.m. EST on Nov. 9) from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in the Gobi Desert.
