NASA satellite spots Kilauea fissures
Jim SharkeyMay 11th, 2018The May 3, 2018, eruption of Kilauea Volcano on the island of Hawaii created a number of gas-spewing and lava-oozing fissures in the volcano's East Rift Zone. Lava flows and high levels of sulfur dioxide gas prompted evacuations in the area, including the Leilani Estates subdivision near the town of Pahoa.

NASA’s LDSD is grounded due to unfavorable weather conditions

NASA SOFIA targets Comet ISON
Jim SharkeyNovember 22nd, 2013NASA’s SOFIA (Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy) recently made a flight to observe “targets of opportunity” including Comet ISON. The nearly 10 hour flight was SOFIA’s second chance to study a comet, having previously observed Comet Hartley 2 in 2010.
