    KOUROU, FRENCH GUIANA -- On Aug. 6, 2019 Arianespace’s third Ariane 5 ECA launch of 2019 lifted the VA249 mission off the pad located at Ariane Launch Complex Number 3 (ELA-3) in Kourou, French Guiana.

    KOUROU, French Guiana -- Arianespace conducted its fifth flight of  2019 when it launched an Ariane 5 ECA rocket and its payload of two communications satellites at 6:41 p.m. local time from Guiana Space Centre's ELA-3 launch site.  Today's launch comes at a time when the company is facing increasing pressure from SpaceX.

    The flight of the Indian GSAT-11 satellite has been pushed back to an undetermined date. The spacecraft had arrived March 28, 2018, in Kourou, French Guiana, in preparation for a launch atop an Ariane 5 rocket, but has now been shipped back to India.

  • Ariane 5 returns to flight with launch of two satellites

    The latest launch of an Ariane 5 rocket took place today at 21:34 UTC (5:34 p.m. EDT) from the company's launch complex in French Guiana. The Ariane 5 lifted off from Guiana Space Center (GSG) carrying two satellites to orbit. Today’s flight saw the release of both the DSN-1/Superbird-8 satellite as well as the HYLAS 4 spacecraft.

    After years of development, and having undertaken rounds of discrete testing, the two major components of NASA's James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) have arrived in California for fully-integrated testing. The flagship mission is referred to as the scientific successor to the stalwart Hubble Space Telescope (HST) and is set to launch on an Arianespace Ariane 5 rocket in the Spring of 2019 from Kourou, French Guiana.
