Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) launched one of their v1.1 type Falcon 9 rockets from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station’s Space Launch Complex 40 (SLC-40) located in Florida. The flight marked the first time that the Hawthorne, California-based company carried a payload to a a supersynchronous transfer orbit. The mission got underway on December 3, 2013 at 5:41 p.m. EDT local time. SES-8, a geostationary communication satellite operated by SES, was produced by Orbital Sciences Corporation (now Orbital ATK) and is based off of the Star-2.4 bus.
