CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -- The 81st flight of a United Launch Alliance rocket made history when it launched Boeing's Starliner spacecraft to the International Space Station. The flight was part of a test program to develop space 'taxis' on behalf of NASA under the agency's Commercial Crew Program. The automated ( but crew-rated ) capsule lifted off from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station's Space Launch Complex 41 at 6:35 a.m. EST (11:35 UTC) on Friday, Dec. 20, 2019. The Starliner spacecraft failed to reach its intended orbit, but the Atlas V rocket completed its part of the mission successfully.
