The pressure vessel for the Orion spacecraft that will conduct NASA's Exploration Mission 1 (EM-1) left the space agency's Michoud Assembly Facility (MAF), located in Louisiana, in January, 26 2016. NASA's new crew-rated spacecraft is currently planned to conduct an unmanned circumlunar flight in September of 2018. Lockheed Martin produces the Orion spacecraft with Boeing, Orbital ATK and others producing the space agency's super heavy-lift Space Launch System (SLS) rocket. In 2017 the space agency's Acting Administrator, Robert Lightfoot asked that there be a study into what would be required to have astronauts fly on EM-1.
