NASA held the Explore JPL event on May 20 and 21, providing a rare opportunity to tour the facilities of the center that manages an array of the space agency's robotic explorers. Of particular interest on this day were the wheels which are planned for use on NASA's Mars 2020 rover and some components that will use additive manufacturing or "3D printing" as it is more commonly known as. JPL is known for missions such as Cassini, Voyager 1 and Voyager 2, and the Curiosity Mars rover as well as the twin Mars Exploration Rovers Spirit and Opportunity. The event covered several facilities at the 177-acre (∼72 hectares) campus. Photos courtesy: Jerome Strach, Jim Sharkey
