  • SpaceX launches 10 Iridium NEXT satellites on Iridium-3 mission

    VANDENBERG, Calif. — SpaceX flew the first Falcon 9 rocket in what could be a launch doubleheader for the NewSpace company. The Iridium-3 mission lifted off from Vandenberg Air Force Base and saw the third set of 10 Iridium NEXT satellites placed into space.

    VANDENBERG, Calif. — Working to continue its breakneck launch pace, SpaceX is set to launch two Falcon 9 rockets in two days. First up is the Iridium-3 mission, which will launch on Oct. 9, 2017, from the company’s West Coast launch pad at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.

    SpaceX has completed a static fire test on a Falcon 9 rocket at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. The rocket will send the Iridium-3 mission into space. Meanwhile, on the East Coast, the launch of a flight-proven Falcon 9 with the SES-11 satellite has been postponed by several days.

    VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. — Launching into the dark West Coast night was a classified payload for the National Reconnaissance Office. Carried by a United Launch Alliance (ULA) Atlas V rocket, the NROL-42 mission lifted away from Space Launch Complex 3 at 1:49 a.m. EDT (05:49 GMT) Sept. 24, 2017.

    VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. — A United Launch Alliance Atlas V 541 rocket has successfully lifted off from Launch Complex 3 at the Vandenberg Air Force Base in California to deliver a classified satellite into orbit for the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO).

  • Launch of NROL-42 delayed due to faulty battery

    The United Launch Alliance (ULA) Atlas V 541 (AV-072) rocket tasked with carrying the classified NROL-42 mission for the U.S. National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) has been delayed 48 hours to no earlier than 05:30 UTC Sept. 24. The cause of the delay was announced as a faulty battery on the launch vehicle.

  • Florida hurricane forces California launch delay

    United Launch Alliance (ULA) announced on Sept. 8, 2017, that the launch of an Atlas V 541 rocket carrying the NROL-42 mission for the National Reconnaissance Office has been postponed. While the launch is slated to take place in California, the delay was based on forecasting for Hurricane Irma.

    VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. — Lifting off on its 40th flight, SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket soared skyward to send into space Taiwan’s first domestically designed and built satellite: Formosat-5. The launch took place at 11:51 a.m. PDT (18:51 GMT) on Aug. 24, 2017, from Vandenberg Air Force Base’s Space Launch Complex 4E (SLC-4E) in California.

The mission, designated Iridium-2, launched at 1:25 p.m. PDT (4:25 p.m. EDT / 20:25 GMT) on June 25, 2017, from Space Launch Complex 4E (east).

  • SpaceX to launch, land 2 Falcon 9 rockets just days apart
